Do you ever wonder if your are making a difference? When we serve in ministry, we pour into the lives of people. We do this because we believe that joining God in His plan to evangelize the world is the best thing we can give our lives to. God has been so good to us…we wholeheartedly have said “yes” to Him. Yet there are times when we get so depleted…and so tired. There are times when after we have given so much, people walk away. We can come to a place of such disappointment that we even wonder “Is all this that I signed up for worth it?” We genuinely love people and have a heart to help and serve and sometimes it seems like it doesn’t really matter. I had a wonderful moment a few days ago when I sat in an arena full of women hearing Shiela Walsh share about how to finish well. She shared her story of her depression, thoughts of suicide and how God miraculously healed her. She shared Philippians 1:12 “Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.” She encouraged us with these words. “When you find yourself in a difficult place, remember that people are watching you…to see how you are coping. Stand faithful…encouraging, believing. Run in your own lane…do not compare yourself with others. Do not get distracted by what is on your right or left. See what God will do. God is all powerful and all loving. He is worth it. When we see Jesus, it will be worth it all. Heaven has not missed one of your tears…He knows the weight of what you bear… He has carried our grief and our sorrows. To finish well, we need to wake up every morning and say “Yes, Lord” and put on the armor of God. We need to worship…not just in the sunlight but also in the storm. She shared how at the worst of her storm, she felt that there was a “death wish” on her life… handed down from her father who had committed suicide at the age of 33. She had dealt with this for so long, and she had come to a breaking point…This breaking point became her healing when God broke off that death wish…when His love gave her life. She then did something that I will never forget…She asked every woman in the arena who had ever thought of or had tried to commit suicide or cutting to come forward for her to pray for them. I thought perhaps we would see a dozen come forward. My heart stood still as I saw hundreds flood forward for her to pray for them…It was at that moment that I felt the Lord whisper into my heart…”Why keep on going in ministry? It is a matter of life and death. There are so many women that need the good news that I have ordained for you to share. You are a part of a mighty army of women who I am raising up to rescue broken women who have come to the end of their hope. Don’t stop.”
“Dear Lord, Help us to not get so weary in well-doing that we stop believing that You really can change lives and that You want to use us to be part of this plan. Lord, give us ears to hear and eyes to see what is going on in people’s lives and to share Your hope with them. Lord we ask You to strengthen us and help us to finish this race well. We believe You are good and it will be worth it all when we see You.”
